Manuscript Assistance and
Self-Publisher Services

Jillett Publications can help you with any or all of the following steps in the publishing process:

Marketing and Promotion

Outlining Your Project

Before you begin, you need to know what you're going to write. That's where a detailed outline comes in. An outline is simply a skeletal structure on which to build. Here's a very basic Self-Help book outline:

Title: How To Write and Publish a Book

Introduction

Chapter 1: Writing The Book

Chapter 2: Polishing the Manuscript

Chapter 3: Finding a Publisher

Conclusion

Perhaps you've heard that editors like to have an "annotated outline" submitted with any book proposal. "Annotated" means that you add some detail to each heading to give the editor a better idea of the information you'll be presenting under each heading and subheading. Chapter titles should, of course, speak for themselves. So when adding annotations, you should highlight something not readily inferred by the title, or something new, different, or special about your information. To expand on our above example:

Title: How To Write and Publish a Book

Subtitle: (For Under $100!)

Introduction

I will show examples of famous manuscripts published for under $100.

Chapter 1: Writing The Book

I will cover all the basics and then show how to use the very latest technology to write quickly and efficiently. How to use "Talk Type" software and the pitfalls to watch out for when using it.

Chapter 2: Polishing the Manuscript

How to get free critiques. Working with trade-school students to get free editorial advice while providing a valuable service to the community.

Chapter 3: Finding a Publisher

How to find publishers willing to take a chance on an unpublished author. When is it better (and more profitable) to publish the manuscript yourself?

Conclusion

Re-cap what we've learned and then finish with my wallop: The most famous manuscript ever published for under $100.

A complete outline for a Self-Help book would include more chapters and detail than above, but the the same principals would apply.

Writing The Manuscript

Perhaps you have specialized knowledge and a great idea for a Self Help book that's sure to sell? But how do you put your specialized knowledge into a readable format? That's where Jillett Publications' ghost writing services come in. All you need to do is put your idea into an annoted outline, which we can also help you with. You then expand on the outline to the best of your writing ability. You may even impress yourself at that point and decide to write the manuscript yourself. But if not, we will give you a price quote for ghost writing your book.

Proofreading And Fact-Checking

As we're proofreading your manuscript, scanning for "or" where there should be "of" or "your" where there should be "you're" -- neither of which would be caught by a spell-checker program -- we're also looking for inconsistencies and factual errors.

Our staff are experienced researchers and have also acquired a substantial amount of "preseach," which is research already on hand through years of life experience in the publishing industry and elsewhere. We are Renaissance Men and Women with a good deal of knowledge about a wide array of topics. We've become very adept at spotting inconsistencies and factual errors, saving our client's from the would-be embarrassment of publishing something that is just plain wrong.

Back Cover & Marketing Copy

The back cover text is very often the only marketing pitch a potential reader will ever see for your book. Too often new authors, especially self-publshers gloss this over, underestimating its importance. This may be your first and only opportunity to sell your book to a potential reader. So lure them in with enticing highlights of your book without giving too much away! You have to think, "If I were reading this back cover, what information would make me want to open this book?"

Strategy varies depending on the genre. A "How-To" book may hint at special tips and tricks or how to avoid certain pitfalls. A fiction novel may introduce the main character and her initial struggles, but of course would never give away the ending!
